What Is White Gold

There are many people that, when they think of gold, the words shiny, metallic or yellow appear in their heads. White or silver are colors that usually don’t appear in people’s minds when they think of gold. But gold is not always yellow. There is white gold also, and it looks fabulous.

White gold is an alloy, of mixed gold with one other metal. Sometimes silver, nickel, palladium or platinum is introduced in the mix.

Why do we need those metals in the gold? Well, some of these added metals bring durability to the gold. Gold is very malleable, it scratches easily and can be easily deformed. Adding another metal, which has more strength, can only make the gold much more durable. The goldsmiths have been creating gold alloys for many years. So why should you wear white gold and not yellow gold?

There are many reasons for this. There are many people that do not want gold jewelry but want something more sophisticated. A mix of gold and aluminum make the metal much more conductible. Many industries also use this mixture for high quality components or for luxurious items.

So never think that the white gold is less valuable than the regular one. Because in many cases, depending on the mixture in the alloy, the white gold is much more precious. White golf of 18 karats is as valuable as the yellow gold of 18 karats. It may look different but it has the same value.
